Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 cup whole milk (warm)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 2 large eggs (room temperature)
  • 1 tbsp red gel food coloring
  • 8 oz cream cheese (softened)
  • 2 cups powdered sugar

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix together 2 cups of flour, sugar, cocoa powder, yeast, and salt. In another bowl, combine warm milk and melted butter. Add this mixture to the dry ingredients along with eggs and food coloring; stir until a sticky dough forms.
  2. Gradually knead in the remaining flour until smooth (about 5 minutes). Place the dough in an oiled bowl, cover with plastic wrap, and let rise in a warm area until doubled (about 1 hour).
  3. Roll out the dough into a rectangle about half an inch thick. Spread softened butter over the dough, sprinkle with sugar and cocoa, then roll tightly from one side to the other.
  4. Cut the rolled dough into 12 even pieces and place them in a greased baking dish. Cover and let rise for another 30 minutes while preheating the oven to 350°F.
  5. Bake for approximately 25 minutes until golden brown. For frosting, beat cream cheese and powdered sugar until smooth, then drizzle over warm rolls before serving.
