  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 large egg (beaten)
  • Icing sugar for decoration

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream the softened butter and brown sugar until fluffy. Add molasses and beaten egg; mix well.
  4. Gradually combine the dry ingredients with the wet mixture until a thick dough forms.
  5. Roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thick on a floured surface and cut out shapes with cookie cutters.
  6. Place the shapes on prepared baking sheets and bake for 8-10 minutes until edges are golden brown.
  7. Let cool before decorating with icing sugar mixed with water or lemon juice.
