Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package (17 oz) puff pastry sheets, thawed
  • 1 lb Italian sausage (sweet or spicy)
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup shredded Gruyère cheese
  • 1 egg mixed with 1 tbsp milk (for egg wash)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add onions and cook for 20-25 minutes until caramelized, stirring occasionally. Season with salt.
  2. In another pan, remove casing from sausage and crumble meat. Cook over medium-high heat until browned (about 8-10 minutes). Drain excess fat.
  3. In a bowl, mix caramelized onions, cooked sausage, and Gruyère cheese until well combined.
  4. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Roll out puff pastry on a floured surface and cut into rectangles approximately four inches wide.
  5. Place two tablespoons of the filling at one end of each pastry rectangle. Roll up and seal edges with a fork.
  6. Brush rolls with egg wash and place on a lined baking sheet. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
