  • 1 cup dulce de leche
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 large egg yolks
  • 2 tsp pure vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a medium saucepan, whisk together the whole milk, heavy cream, granulated sugar, and half of the dulce de leche. Heat over medium-low until warm but not boiling.
  2. In a separate bowl, beat the egg yolks until pale and frothy.
  3. Slowly pour about one cup of the warm milk mixture into the egg yolks while whisking continuously to temper them.
  4. Return the tempered egg mixture to the saucepan and cook over low heat, stirring frequently until thickened enough to coat the back of a spoon.
  5. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract and remaining dulce de leche.
  6. Pour into serving bowls or one large dish, cover with plastic wrap directly on the surface, and refrigerate for at least four hours or overnight.
