Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb lean ground beef

  • 2 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 2 cups marinara sauce
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 lb pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Roll out the pizza dough into a circle large enough for a deep dish pan.
  2. In a bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, Italian seasoning, egg, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined.
  3. Shape the mixture into small meatballs (about 1 inch in diameter) and place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  4. Bake meatballs for 15 minutes or until cooked through.
  5. Spread half of the marinara sauce on the bottom of the deep dish pan. Layer half of the mozzarella cheese over it and add baked meatballs on top.
  6. Sprinkle remaining mozzarella cheese over the meatballs and add more marinara sauce if desired. Bake for an additional 20-25 minutes until golden brown.

Keywords: For extra crispy crust, pre-bake the dough for 5 minutes before adding toppings. Substitute ground turkey or chicken for leaner options, or use plant-based meat alternatives for vegetarian versions. Add veggies like bell peppers or onions for extra flavor.
