  • 4 beef hot dogs
  • 1 cup finely ground cornmeal
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • Wooden skewers (soaked in water)

Instructions

  1. Insert wooden skewers into each hot dog, leaving space at the bottom for handling.
  2. In a bowl, combine cornmeal, flour, baking powder, chili powder, and salt. In another bowl, whisk together the egg and milk. Mix both until just blended.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a deep pot to 350°F (175°C).
  4. Dip each hot dog into the batter until fully coated; let excess drip off.
  5. Fry in batches for about 3-4 minutes until golden brown and crispy. Drain on paper towels before serving.
